High street pharmacy chain Boots will start providing a private covid-19 vaccine service in England from April, offering the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine for £98.95.

To be eligible, a person must be aged 12 or over and have not had a covid-19 vaccine in the past three months or had an allergic reaction to any previous injections or vaccinations.

A spokesperson for Boots said, “We are launching a private covid-19 vaccination service for people who are not eligible for an NHS vaccination but still want the option to protect themselves from the virus.”

The company said the fee covers the cost of the vaccine as well as operational and administrative costs.

Currently, only people aged 75 years and older, people who live in older adult care homes, and those who are six months and over and have a weakened immune system can access the covid-19 vaccine booster free on the NHS.1

The private service will be similar to the private chickenpox vaccination service provided by pharmacies such as Boots, which offers one dose for £75 or two doses (a full course) for £150.2
