Rapid responses are electronic comments to the editor. They enable our users
to debate issues raised in articles published on bmj.com. A rapid response
is first posted online. If you need the URL (web address) of an individual
response, simply click on the response headline and copy the URL from the
browser window. A proportion of responses will, after editing, be published
online and in the print journal as letters, which are indexed in PubMed.
Rapid responses are not indexed in PubMed and they are not journal articles.
The BMJ reserves the right to remove responses which are being
wilfully misrepresented as published articles or when it is brought to our
attention that a response spreads misinformation.
From March 2022, the word limit for rapid responses will be 600 words not
including references and author details. We will no longer post responses
that exceed this limit.
The word limit for letters selected from posted responses remains 300 words.
I beleive that nobody should have a personal weapon - MOST ESPECIALLY
guns. Guns do not prevent death or injury - they only cause them. Its that
simple. In Australia and most of the rest of the rest of the civilised
World we do not have a statement in our constitutions that give us
individualts the right to bear arms. An we don't want it.
Why have a gun? You may say "To protect ourselves". How , lets examine.
As a threat to use - maybe - but you probably would get shot in the
process of such a threat faster than you would if you didn't make such a
threat.
Go and kill those who may use a gun against us before they could use it
agaist us - see how vile and contemptuous that is
Well then how else can we protect ourselves
1. Remove the cause of threat - the Guns
2. Remove the desire/right to use - change your constitution, educate non
violence, solve social problems etc, create social unacceptability of gun
use such as sports and leisure shooting - "guns are for those who lack the
courage to protect themselves naturally"
3. Invent/utilise less violent forms of protection/aprehension such as
stun, tranquilisers, rope nets - use your imagination - there are lots of
very clever engineers out the who would cherish the oportunity to display
there inginuity.
No Guns
