Harold Bornstein: Donald Trump’s former personal physician

In a medical letter in 2015 that was littered with unprecedented hyperbole, Harold Bornstein apparently wrote: “If elected, Mr Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.”

More than two years later Bornstein—a long haired, eccentric poet and Trump’s doctor for nearly 30 years—finally admitted what many had suspected. He told CNN that the overweight, junk food eating Republican candidate had dictated the letter himself.

The US TV anchor and political commentator Lawrence O’Donnell denounced the four paragraph report as “the single most absurd letter written by a doctor in the history of the practice of medicine.” (With hindsight maybe he should have said “attributed to a doctor.”)
