SARS shows no sign of coming under control

    The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) shows no sign of abating and has infected nearly 3000 people in 20 countries. On 14 April, Hong Kong authorities reported another seven deaths in the previous 24 hour period.

    By 13 April 129 deaths had been reported worldwide. Although in most countries there have been no cases of local transmission, outbreaks in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Canada have worsened and show no signs yet of being brought under control.
