Scientists in India are up in arms against the animal rights watchdog committee headed by Maneka Gandhi, the former minister for animal rights.
The tussle between the National Institute of Immunology, Delhi, and Ms Gandhi's Committee for Prevention of Cruelty in Scientific Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) has led to a police complaint and a court case.
After a sudden inspection visit by three committee members in September 2002, reports appeared in some national dailies at the end of October referring to “barbaric and brutal experimentation” on animals and quoted Ms Gandhi as saying, …
