Primary prevention of coronary heart disease in groups at high risk
depends on screening through primary care and provision of risk related
advice or treatment. Criticisms of these recommendations highlight the
lack of evidence for the cost effectiveness of multiple risk factor
interventions. Marteau and Kinmonth argue on page 78 that this lack of
evidence may reflect how people are invited for screening. They
consider the implications of offering preventive services within a
framework of informed choice.
