The global initiative for asthma, a joint project between the Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization, has designated 7 May 2002 as world asthma day. This year children will be the focuslogically, because 90% of patients have developed the disease by the age of 6 years.1 In Britain asthma is the most commonly identified chronic childhood disease, affecting one in eight children and resulting in 30 000 hospital admissions annually.2 …
