Biodegradable stents developed

Biodegradable arterial stents may offer advantages over metallic ones in coronary artery angioplasty. Researchers, led by Drs Hideo Tamai from Shiga Medical Center, and Keiji Igaki from Igaki Medical Planning, Japan, tested biodegradable coronary artery stents in 15 patients and have shown for the first time that the use of such stents is both feasible and safe.
